Week 2 | Name Change and Ideation

We rebranded from Lawly to Civica to reflect our broader mission of inclusivity while solidifying our project’s scope and beginning competitor research.
Changing Our Name from Lawly to Civica
After some deep brainstorming, we realized that the name "Lawly" was strange and felt it did not fit our vision. We renamed our app to "Civica," inspired by "Civic Law," to highlight our focus on law-related services, specializing in non-criminal matters such as family and property disputes. Here’s an image of our name brainstorming process.
Initial Scope of the Project
We originally wanted to focus on creating a women-centered legal app due to the fact that we are an all women group. However after further discussion we did not want to have our audience too narrow thus decided to broaden the app to serve all genders. Our core focus remains on accessibility and affordable legal help for underserved communities.
Team Charter
One of our assignments was to create a team charter that encompasses understanding our project and our team as a whole. Which included various aspects such as team members strengths, weakness, communication style. Our team values open communication, collaboration, and accountability. Each member brings unique skills to the table, ensuring we stay on track and deliver the best product possible.
Ideation Research
Once we settled on creating a legal app to help everyone we got to work on our ideation process of the app. First we searched for competitors within the legal app sphere. We were able to collect a robust amount of competitors that were subsequently added to our competitive analysis excel sheet. Thus the competitors were key in guiding our ideation process.
